Sophia Marie Pappas

I had the great pleasure of working with Bryan Baker at the Stukenborg Press for a couple months. There I am helped by doing odd jobs such as sorting type and spacing material, and assisted with printing a couple of jobs, as well as setting type for a couple of Bryan's projects. It was a great experience and really opened my eyes to a couple different methods of letterpress printing.

I scanned hundreds of art prints for the CCS's Visual Resource Center's online database. I edited and retouched the scans as well as cataloged them for the database. It was a good experience for collecting and cataloging information, as well working with Photoshop, retouching the scans.

I learned so much from working as a design intern at BSSP. I worked on formatting internal page layouts for BSSP to designing coupons for one of their clients. I also assisted with a logo exploration and a rebranding project. I came away from the experience with a sharp eye for layout design and typography. I also have a greater ability to work under pressure, as well as collaborate and work with a variety of different designers and creative directors.

A the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, I had my introduction to working with a corporate brand. It was a really positive experience and I learned a lot from working along side my superior. I gained a lot of comfort with Adobe Indesign, as well as an ability to work within a current brand strategy and aesthetics.

At this internship I worked alongside a book maker and assisted with her fine art book construction. It was a great experience and I came away with tool box of book binding techniques. I have applied what I learned to a couple of projects with great success!

I studied a variety of methods of visual communication and methods. I took classes in graphic design, typography, and web design, as well as fashion illustration courses and different printing methods such as letterpress and screen printing.
