Design and teaching a basic course in wireless sensor networks. Course topics include basics of wireless communication, network and node architectures, communication protocols (MAC, network and transport layer), time synchronization, localization, positioning and topology control.

Design and development of non conformance protocol test cases and protocol test libraries for LTE mobile communication devices. Investigation of new business areas like M2M communication and robustness test. Design and teaching of seminars on actual mobile communication topics.

Research: Mobile communication, in particular architectures and protocols for IP based UTRAN (project developed in cooperation with Lucent Technology). Energy efficient protocols for wireless sensor networks, among others time synchronization, network initialization and topology control. Protocols for Powerline based smart metering applications. Teaching: "Computer Networks Lab" and "Mobile Networks" including basics of radio communication, WLAN, Bluetooth, TCP/IP and security aspects

Applied R&D: TCP performances in particular related to the case of Long Thin Networks. TCP/IP performance measurement. WLAN performances. Feasibility of WLAN based network deployment along the railway (project in cooperation with Swisscom). Network Security. Teaching: "Basics of computer networks" in particular TCP/IP. "Computer Network Lab" including TCP/IP, Ethernet, WLAN, ATM, Token-Ring and network security. Continuing education courses "Internet Security Lab" and "Wireless LAN".

Evaluation of AODI (Always On/ Dynamic ISDN) with respect to the applicability on the ISDN Network of Telecom Italia. Development of a prototype of a short messaging system based on the ISDN D-Channel. Definition of guidelines and procedures for the evaluation of the quality of experience with reference to the ISDN supplementary services offered by Telecom Italia
